The Client & The Project Scope
Client Introduction: SHJ Medical & Lab Gas Specialists is a leading provider of medical and laboratory gas systems, specialising in creating reliable infrastructure for critical healthcare operations.
Project Scope: To design, supply, install, test and certify the complete internal electrical infrastructure for a mobile medical gas plant room built by SHJ. This crucial unit was destined for immediate deployment at an NHS hospital.
The comprehensive installation included:
-
Strong Foundations: Built a durable Unistrut frame and installed around 25m of cable tray to support all cabling.
Power Setup: Fitted a new Schneider 3-phase distribution board with a main isolator and external commando socket for reliable power input.
Circuits & Lighting: Installed power supplies for compressors, sockets, lighting, fans and spurs, including energy-efficient LED fittings for a bright, practical workspace.
Safety First: Completed full earthing and bonding, ensuring all metalwork was safely connected and compliant.
Tested & Certified: Every circuit tested, labelled and certified to BS 7671 standards, guaranteeing performance and safety from day one.

The Challenge
The Critical Challenge: The project required an urgent, full electrical fit-out inside a shipping container that would house critical medical gas equipment (compressors, etc.). The installation had to meet stringent medical standards (reliability, safety) and electrical regulations (BS7671) under a highly accelerated timeline to ensure the unit could be delivered to the hospital for immediate use.
Impact: Failure to complete the electrical work rapidly and flawlessly would have delayed the deployment of the critical plant room to a NHS Hospital, potentially impacting their ability to support essential patient care and operations.
The Solution
GBB’s Strategy: GBB deployed a specialised team to execute the full scope of works with precision and speed. The strategy involved simultaneous installation of containment and distribution, ensuring all elements were robust and fully compliant for a mobile, critical care application.
Unique Value: GBB’s ability to handle the full end-to-end electrical process, from fabricating and installing the custom Unistrut frame and cable containment, to complex SWA cable termination, through to DB setup, circuit installation and final BS7671 certification, ensured a single, high-quality point of accountability for SHJ. The job was completed urgently, meeting the tight deadline.
The Results
Quantifiable Outcomes: The entire electrical installation and certification process was completed on an urgent timeline, allowing the unit to be dispatched to a NHS Hospital exactly as planned. All installations passed BS7671 standards on the first attempt, confirming the quality and safety of the critical infrastructure.
Qualitative Outcomes: SHJ Medical & Lab Gas Specialists received a safe, reliable and fully certified mobile medical plant room ready for immediate operation in a critical healthcare setting. By delivering quickly and professionally, GBB acted as a trusted partner, ensuring SHJ could meet their commitment to delivering critical, safe infrastructure—fast.
